Susie, my beloved,

You brightened my days in Toronto. Your kindness, your gentleness, your love, your care crafted in my heart.  

You certainly did a great job raising up the Js.  You were always busy doing housework & guiding the boys, especially their Chinese studies.

You were so precise, you followed every steps from the recipe when you cooked, no more & no less.  You were so willing to learn how to cook for your family.  Ambrose & I were so delighted & joyful to sample your cooking.   We enjoyed very much spending time with you, your family & also your parents.  It's indeed memorable.

You surely a great mom, great wife, great daughter & great friend.  You will be missed & stayed in our heart forever.

About 15 years ago, I worked with Susie at AG. She was a Sunday Page there. AG was always crazy busy on Sundays in old time, and Susie was the only page who knew how to use a hook to manage the bookdrop efficiently. She humorously call herself "Captain Hook." We were all busy working, so we didn't talk much. The clerical staff greatly admired Susie for her hard work and constant positivity. Despite the challenges we faced at work, she always maintained a cheerful attitude, which earned her the respect and admiration of everyone around her.

I got to know Susie better about two or three years ago when she came to visit the Steeles Branch with her grandkids. That's when I found out she was a proud grandmother of two. She looked really happy and young, and it surprised me that she was a grandma because she seemed too young for it. It was nice to see her having fun with her grandkids outside of work.

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Susie's passing. My thoughts go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. May they find solace in the fond memories of Susie and the happiness she brought into their lives.

I had the privilege of working under the supervision of Susie at Agincourt District Library. On my very first day of work on January 4th, 2022, Susie was the first person I met. As my page supervisor, she guided me through my tasks, always ready to assist and was caring and gentle.

Susie’s support and guidance has left an indelible mark in my TPL Journey.  Her intelligence, kindness, and unwavering strength will always be remembered. I bid farewell to you. You will truly be missed. May you rest in peace.

我們不單是多年的同學，也是室友。一群室友，一起早餐，上學，功課，晚餐，遊戲，互相嘲諷，亦樂此不疲。在我們的朋友圈中，她是最健康的，生活和飲食都很平衡。真難想像她會早我們而去，腦海中仍然衝擊著她活潑的笑容和最後在belrock 門口與她的 Hi 和 Bye。
問世間情是何物，我們的友誼雖然來得平淡，但仍可延續一生。

Thanks for the wonderful years we shared at York U, including the
many meals and cooking we shared, grocery shopping, trips to Chinatown as well as tight-squeezed drive down to Disneyland . Oh, and the skiiing trip where Albert could not get up when he fell 😜 The joy and laughters were unforgettable.  We were like a little family with some self-invited or adopted grown-ups like Sam & Arnold. Extra fun was added when Alice & your sister bunked in and teased Bobby. RIP dearest dormmate. Hope we will re-live together in our next lives!

In memory of Susie … remembering all the “Outlander” books we bagged for book bundles Grab and Go at the library during the Pandemic. (Wanted a video but could only download the lyrics  of The Skye Boat Song)

My Aunt Susie and her family took care of me when I arrived in Canada in early 2010 to pursue my studies. Her care and kindness made me feel warm and encouraged during the initial period of adapting to life in Canada. I still cherish the memories of her taking me to Walmart to buy stationery and daily necessities. At that time, I felt unfamiliar with the foreign environment, but the company of her and her family brought me a sense of security.

Aunt Susie, my family (father Leung Mang Sing, mother Chow Mei Yin, and younger brother Leung Tak Lok) and I (Leung Yuen Ki) in Hong Kong were deeply saddened to hear of your passing. Although we could not personally visit you, we will forever remember your care and warmth in our hearts. Your kindness and concern were priceless to us, and we will always be grateful for your help and support.

During this time of mourning, we reminisce about the beautiful memories of you and will carry forward this care and warmth. May you find eternal peace in heaven. We will always cherish your memory, Aunt Susie.

As a former colleague at Toronto Public Library, Susie Chu is fondly remembered by me for her calm nature, as a kind, thorough, solution minded and dedicated individual who served her library community with confidence, skill, grace and humility, As a valued team player, she loved and took great pride in her job. 

We were all devastated to learn of her recent illness and prayed that she will overcome her medical challenges. But her work on earth was soon done and God called her home to rest.

Susie will be dearly missed by me and all who knew her. She will not be forgotten but will be remembered  by future library staff  in 100 years from now, in the year 2121, when her message saved in the Agincourt staff fun collective Time Capsule Project, in which she participated, will be revealed …

My beloved Susie,
I have known you since the 70’s and later had the pleasure to become your sister in law. 
You had dedicated your life in taking care of your family,  and raising two wonderful boys must have been your greatest reward. I will always remember your calm and collective character which was perfect to cool down the hot temperament in the Chou family. Most of all, your courage and positivity during your illness had been a great role model to me and everyone around you. You had been a brave warrior and you made all of your loved ones proud. Distance and timing denied me the last farewell but those times seeing you last summer will be treasured in my heart. It’s sad that you had to leave; may knowing the relief from earthly pain and suffering give peace and comfort to all who love and miss you.

Deeply saddened to hear the loss of Susie.

Susie was a great and wonderful colleague, worked hard and saw the best in others. 

My deepest sympathy to the family.

Susie is my elder sister. She is the oldest child in the family. She is about 16 months older than me. I have memories of going to the same kindergarten and our aunts bought us to play at the beaches in HK. We even left HK in the same year when we continued our education in Canada. 

Susie has a gentle nature. I don’t remember she ever got angry. 節儉是她的美德. The first year when we were studying high school in Canada, we were foreign students. We had very limited pocket money from our parent. When Susie saw that many of the HK foreign students in the school had their bicycles and I didn’t have one, she used her leftover pocket money to buy me a bike. She did that out of her kind and loving heart.

When I was still in high school and it was Susie’s first year in York University, often time she would save up her university cafeteria coupons to treat me university cafeteria meals (they were treats to me when comparing to high school cafeteria food) when I spent long weekends at York campus with her. This was her way to show her care to me.

Susie is also a no nonsense person. She knows what she wants. Albert was Susie’s first and only boyfriend before they got married. In 1982, when Susie told me that they were going to get married, I asked Susie why she decide to marry Albert. Susie said, “because when I am with Albert, I feel very comfortable.” I was so touched when I heard that. The rest is history.

Susie also has a sense of humor. When both of her boys were still living at home, I visited them and said to Susie that she was so lucky to live in a house with three handsome gentleman. She said, “lucky! All I know is, I have to mop the floor around the toilets all the time.”

Susie is a loving daughter to our parents, a loving wife to Albert, a loving mother to her two boys Jeffrey and Jason, and a loving grandma to her grandkids. In return , Susie is dearly loved by her family; every one of them. Susie will be dearly missed.
