Oct 28, 1933 – Feb 24, 2015
Master sculptor, loving husband, most wonderful dad and Opa passed away suddenly while vacationing in his much beloved get away spot of almost 50 years. Siggy never grew ‘old’, never slowed down, always lived life to the fullest and always happily spoke his mind. He will be sorely missed by all and always in our hearts. He leaves behind so many good memories and, an impressive body of sculpture in bronze, stone and wood that spanned almost 50 years from his first one man show. His art was always his passion and he felt fortunate to be able to do what he loved most. He constantly challenged himself to capture the spirit and likeness of both the people and animals he portrayed. Some of his well-recognized public works can be seen in and around the city at Queens Park (Ontario Police Memorial and the Fire Fighter Memorial), the Rogers Centre (Ted Rogers Memorial) and Woodbine Racetrack (Hall of Fame Jockey, Avelino Gomez).
Siggy is survived by his loving wife Eva, his daughter, son-in law and grandson, Juanita, George and Connor Shipley.
