MAY 2,1923-JULY 21, 2014
An extraordinary man who had an extraordinary life! Predeceesed by his beloved wife Margie. He loved his church, community, his country and most importantly his friends and family. He built libraries, a hospital and Presbyterian churches. He helped organize and energize the Liberal Party of Canada in the 1960’s and 70’s and was appointed to the Senate at the age of 44. Dick served 30 years in the Senate, leading trade missions around the world and chairing many Senate committees. He was born in Exeter, Ontario to George and Jean Stanbury, the 7th of 8 children. They moved to St Catharines where he met the love of his life, Margie. After a stint in the army, they got married and moved to Toronto for Law School. He practiced law in Toronto for most of his life with Al Hollingworth and his brother Bob, and then at Cassels Brock. He was part of the original Board of Directors of Rogers Communication and sat on many National and International Boards. In later years, he spent the winters in Naples, Florida and the summers at the cottage on Shadow Lake in Coboconk. His friends in Canada, Naples and around the world hugely enriched his life. He was a truly good man, kind and generous in every way and to every person. He will be greatly missed by those left behind: sister, Elaine, brother, Bob, daughters: Jane (Gordon) and Sally, grandchildren: Jen (Jeff), Jackie (Charlie), Kelsey and David and great grandson Tyler. A memorial service will be held at Celebration Presbyterian Church at 500 Coldstream Ave., Toronto at 11 am on Monday, Aug. 11. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Heart and Stoke Foundation or Habitat for Humanity. Condolences may be left at www.trullfuneralsyonge.com
