So sorry to hear of Peter’s passing. I have read many of his Banks stories and enjoyed every one. I will miss reading his books.

In knowing Peter from when his first book was published, I witnessed how his technical skills were matched with a discerning intellect, a sensitivity to the personalities he encountered, and a generosity he expressed in his characters along with an acute sense of humour. Peter was not only a consistently superb writer but a genuinely good-hearted person as well. He will be greatly missed for these and many more reasons. My sincere condolences to Sheila and the family.



Peter was a speaker at the Port Medway Readers' Festival - in Nova Scotia, Canada, just a few years ago.  We are a literary festival that supports Canadian authors and this was the first time we'd invited a crime novelist.  Both the idea of inviting him and his talk were extremely well received and we fully expected to invite him and Inspector Banks back again.  We felt like we'd made a new friend. We were shocked and saddened to learn of his sudden passing. As a confirmed fan of all his books, I'm adjusting to the news that both he and Banks are gone.   My heart goes out to his family and his enormous family of fans.

Gobsmacked to learn of Peters death. A fellow Brit my favourite crime writer, an authentic sleuth great support staff and engaging stories. I met him at Kingston’s Writers Fest and really enjoyed his company. My condolences to the family, I will miss him.

Saddened by the news of Peter Passing, he was my favourite Author ,I have enjoyed all his books and was looking forward to his next but realize I will content myself by reading all his books again. My condolences to his family and friends.

Ed and I were so sad to learn of Peter's passing. I was a student in Peter's creative writing class at Ryerson.  His encouragement led to my becoming a published, award-winning writers. He was a warm, caring and supportive man and we will miss him.

When I met Peter back in the day, I knew he had earned a PHD studying Ted Hughs, but I was most impressed that he had attended the famous “Live at Leeds” concert where “The Who”, predated that whole punk rock thing by several years. I still fondly recall our many discussions about the Fairports, Floyd’s, Tulls and of course his fave, Dylan. I will miss you sir.


I am very sorry to hear this news. I really enjoyed Mr. Robinson's books. My collection takes up an entire shelf on my bookcase.  The books were a welcome distraction during challenging times. He also seemed very dedicated to helping others succeed as writers. Peter Robinson will be very much missed. My condolences to his family.

His books were so enjoyable  and had the ability to draw you in. He knew Yorkshire, loved Yorkshire and conveyed it so well. 

How we we all miss his singular DCI Banks.

I recall visiting family in Knutsford  Cheshire in 2014 and the train station there had a huge poster advertising Abbatoir Blues.  I mentioned this to the station master and he commented that Peter was a favorite author of his.

I guess he and I had that in common.




So long Peter, and thank you for everything… The conversations, the wonderful crime writing, and the archive you donated and which I thoroughly enjoyed digging through and writing about… A real life legend! My condolences to his partner, wider family, friends and fans - there are so so many.

His books have brought me many hours of pleasure. An exceptional wordsmith, weaver of great plots, creator of real characters - so very sad to know there will be no more.

Peter's books also gave me a bit of home as I too was English raised.

I met Peter when he attended  Leeds Alumni events. His success was an inspiration to us all.
Many of us have watched the Inspector Banks series and read his crime novels.  Guessing the ending was always a challenge! Peter will be missed.

Great memories of good times  in the Feathers pub in Toronto with Peter and friends . 
I wasn’t mentioned in the one book he wrote featuring characters from Feathers , but I did get a kind of honourable mention in one novel when Peter featured a 
Mrs Barraclough running a  B and B in Blackpool :) I was quite chuffed .

So sorry to hear the news of Peter’s passing. I knew Peter back in the 70s at York University.  So many fond memories of Poetry 101, Thursday pub nights, sampling Peter’s home brew, helping move a printing press…. Condolences to his family. Let’s raise a glass one more time. Cheers Peter.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Peter Robinson's passing. As an avid reader and retired English teacher, I had intended to send him a thank you message for the 27 brilliant novels that helped to sustain me through the pandemic.
Unfortunately, I am too late but want to extend my sincere condolences to the family of this clever man who crafted unique plots and memorable characters in a prose style that was both eloquent and enchanting. He was, indeed, a literary legend.

Man, I remember reading 'Friend of the Devil', and i  was hooked. Such a good book, such a good writer. As a resident of Toronto, this kinda hits home. Peter is a legend in the crime writing world....in my eyes. May you rest in peace and many condolences to your family. 

Never have I ever been so captured by a book until I read my first Alan Banks novel.

It just drew me in from the first letter to the last.

This was 20 years ago and after that i consumed everything Peter wrote.

The highlight of my birthday was getting a new Alan Banks novel.
I usaually let it lie on the bedside table for a month, because I wanted to have something left.

From a reader and a fan it might sound strange that I am genuinly sad.
I never knew Peter.

But still.
I think I got to know him anyhow, through Alan Banks.

My sincere condolonces to Peters family.

So sad to learn of Peter’s passing. I remember happily the pub beers and scotch tasting at Feathers and a summer’s eve BBQ on our back deck with some of Peter’s students from a York U writing course.  Our thoughts are with Sheila and family at this time
