Olive Joan Smith

Peacefully, on January 28th 2014 at the age of 87, in the arms of her loving family. Graduate of Northern Vocational. Accountant-administrator with the Mirror newspapers, the Fitness Institute and Bayview Medical Centre. Member of the Anglican Church of Canada (Past President of the ACWS at All Souls Clairtrell), founding member of 21 McGill Women’s Club and the Aphasia Centre. Generous donor. Gifted collector. In recent years, a remarkable painter. Olive fostered the talents and aspirations of her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren with intuition, careful consideration and long-term commitment. A quiet, gentle influence balanced with regular flashes of piercing wit and mimcry. Greatly missed by her devoted husband Donald (Northern Telecom), her daughters Catherine and Elizabeth (William LaMere), her grandchildren Michael and Megan Smith-Uffen, Devin and Ally LaMere and Kitty (Keith Butler) and her great-grandchildren Charlie and Jack. Sadly missed by her brother Pat Burrows (Toronto), her brother- and sister-in-law Gordon and Verna Smith (Santa Barbara, CA), her many nieces and nephews and the LaMere extended family. Funeral service at 1 pm on Saturday February 1st in the Chapel at Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street (south of Steeles), North York. Refreshments to follow.
