She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Douglas Lewis, and their only son, Charles (Charlie) Lewis, her parents Morris and Sarah (Sadie) Webb and her first cousin, Mary Eason.
Eileen will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her grandchildren Kathleen, Emily and Brendan, and great grandchildren Raymond, Ayden and Brooklyn, her cousins Marie Eason Klatt and Gloria Eason, and her many close friends.
Eileen’s early years were spent on farms where her father worked, caring for and training horses. She had many fond memories of attending the one-room Zion School that currently serves as a museum. Her father taught her to ride and she grew to love horses and all animals. She often attended horse shows with her father and it was at one of these shows at the age of 17, where she first met her husband, Doug. After they married, Doug became a police officer in Toronto and they eventually moved to their home in Willowdale where they raised their son, Charlie.
She will be remembered by those who knew her as a gregarious, warm, forthright woman who naturally drew people into her circle. During her later years, she cultivated many new friendships at her seniors’ residence in Thornhill and she will be greatly missed there.
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff at Amica Thornhill for their compassionate care throughout her 15 years of residence there. They would also like to thank Mackenzie Health staff for their care of Eileen over this past year and during her recent, brief illness.
