Born October 10, 1933 in Carndonagh, County Donegal, Ireland. Died peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, on November 10, 2021.
In 1956 Nuala emigrated to Canada to marry Daniel Grant (himself born in Malin Head, Co. Donegal), where they enjoyed a devoted partnership for 50 years until Daniel passed in 2006.
She will be deeply missed by her children Cathleen (Sandro), Anne (Marty), John (Dyan), and Maeve (Brad).
Known as ‘Granny’ to her twelve grandchildren, she will always be remembered by Tara (Vic), Christine (Anthony), Alex (Lana), Mario (Kathy); Sean (Angela), Jacqueline (Michael), Howard, Nicholas; Daniel (Emma), Patrick, Clare, and Pearse.
Since 2011, Nuala was thrilled to become Great-Granny ‘GG’ to Aidan, Abigail, Fionnuala, Valentina, Tyler, Matteo, Gabriel, Autumn, Troy, Norman, Mason, and Leo.
Beloved by her Irish family, Nuala was sister to Mary-Jo (Joe), Brigid (Des), Kathleen (Pat), Paddy (Teish), Liam (Mariead), John (Marlene), Michael (Lisa), Agatha (Harry), and Aiden (Noreen); and sister-in-law to Mary (Frank), John (Anne), and Josephine (Gerry).
Nuala thoroughly enjoyed her work as a teacher and speech therapist with the Toronto Catholic School Board from the early 1960s until her retirement in 1993. She spent her retirement birdwatching, gardening, travelling, hosting family feasts, and baking her famous brown bread, scones, and raisin bread. Nuala appreciated her good neighbors in the Avenue Rd. community over the last 50 years. She relished attending films, operas, and sharing meals with her wonderful friends. They had such good times. The private funeral mass for immediate family will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church (Yonge St. south of Lawrence Ave.) at 11 am on Tuesday November 16th, 2021 and can be viewed live online via the church's live stream link. Cremation to follow.
