She also leaves behind her brother Carmine Grappone and family, and her brother-in-laws Armando Forgione, Alessandro Costantino, and Pietro Petruzzo and families.
Maria’s passions for family and food were evident to anyone who knew her. Maria loved to cook and her home made pasta dishes and sfogliatella desserts where always a highlight of any large family event. Even when she was too weak to cook, she orchestrated every aspect of our last holiday dinners.
Maria’s passion for food and cooking was only surpassed by her love and deep devotion to family. Maria was always one of the first to assist family members in need and was a pillar of strength to her mother and two sisters during their illnesses. Family gatherings always brought the greatest joy for Maria and spending time with her two grandsons was the best gift she could receive. Many who knew Maria always commented how happy and proud she looked when watching Cristian and Matteo play baseball at High Park. She was definitely one of their biggest fans.
Maria was taken from us much too soon by a terrible lung disease that also took the life of Fiorenza and Concetta. However, Maria’s strength during her battle with pulmonary fibrosis and the impact she had on those she loved will never be forgotten. May she rest in peace along side her parents and sisters.
We would like to thank all those who offered so much love and support during her illness. Donations in her memory may be made online to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at:
