(Dec. 16, 1933 to Dec. 24, 2014)
At peace and surrounded by her family, Margaret died at her home on Christmas Eve. Even in her final days, she showed the grace, love and generosity that exemplified how she lived her life. Through joys and sorrows, and with Don, the love-of-her-life at her side, Margaret found a way to connect with everyone she met. Whether playing bridge or bocce, listening to a symphony, travelling with family and friends, or savouring a Ston(e)y Lake sunset, Margaret lived well, laughed often and loved much.
Born in the Town of Mount Royal to the late Rev. Canon Howard and Dorothy (Fraser) Boulden, Margaret soon moved with her family to Port Hope, Ontario, where she had many great memories of growing up with her brother John and dear neighbour-sister, Kayrene (Shannon) Workman. Margaret loved her time at the University of Toronto’s Trinity College. After graduating, she revelled in her “Grand Tour” of Europe with friends. But a greater adventure awaited Margaret back in Canada when Don met her at the ship and proposed to her.
True partners in life and love, Margaret and Don had five children. The heartbreak of the early deaths of David and Andy drew them and their children even closer together. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Donald Paul Walter, and their children: Heather (Patrick McCloskey), Kathryn (Greg Woodbury), Tim (Jennifer Beatty). Margaret will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Jack, Ben and Anna. Margaret was predeceased by her brother, John Boulden, and will be lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law Geralda (Dede) Boulden and her niece and nephew, Jane and Eric.
At home in Toronto or at the cottage on Stony Lake in the Kawarthas, Margaret was a warm and welcoming presence. For Margaret, family came first. But she still found time for her many friends and for her volunteer work, including: with Don in the 1960s with the Diocesan Family Life Program; with the St. Margaret’s Anglican Church Women’s Group at St. Clement’s in Toronto; and her friends with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) Travel Committee.
The family would like to thank the oncology team at St. Michael’s Hospital, and the caregivers, nurses, and palliative care doctors who made it possible for Margaret to remain at home during her final chapter of life. We are also grateful to Margaret and Don’s many good friends for their gifts of food, flowers, cards, visits and phone calls.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation in the Briar Hill Room at St. Clement’s Anglican Church, 70 St. Clement’s Avenue, Toronto, on Monday Jan. 5th, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at St. Clement’s Anglican Church on Tuesday, Jan. 6th, 11am.
