Joyce Matthews

Our dear mother Joyce Matthews sadly passed away on May 18, 2024, at the age of 92. She loved all her children and will be loved and missed by all of them, Jeannie, George, Karen and Wayne. Grandchildren, Billie-Jean, Richard, Amber-Sue, Ian, Joyce and Frank. Greatgrandchildren, Zoey, Xyanna, Kash, Ashley. Great great grandchild, Lily. Her beloved bird Peter. Predeceased by daughter Barbara and granddaughter Christine.

Our mom always carried an inner strength and independence that she instilled in all of us. She was a survivor and had that “carry on” attitude.

Our mom was a person whom when you asked her what she liked to do she would say “I likes my housework” and she did! Mom led a simple life born in Newfoundland. Before old age set in mom walked daily sometimes 20kms a day and like the Newfoundlander she was had a smile for every passing stranger and a wish of a great day.

Mom was a homebody and loved having family dinners with all her children. We would all come home for Christmas and Sunday dinners until brother George and wife Sue took over for her in her later years. Mom loved flowers, the birds and all of nature. In moms younger days she enjoyed music and we would do the jig while she played the accordian and spoons.

She enjoyed her final days at Tru Davidson where the staff thought of her as an angel. Now she is. Rest easy.
