Husband and best travelling companion of Diane for 53 years. Eldest brother of Pat Rose (John) and the late Ken. Loving brother-in-law of Juanita, Barry (Heather), Lesley and the late John and Bob. Beloved father of Steve, Liz McMahan (Jeff) and doting grandfather of Kieran. Lifelong friend of Paul Stewart. Proud and loving priest of the Diocese of Toronto in the Anglican Church of Canada for 38 years serving five parishes. John served on many Diocesan and Regional Committees over the years. Special clergy friend of the Rev’d Jamie Howison, the Rev’d Lynn Mitchell, the late Rev’d Allan Kirk and the late Rev’d Ralph Eibner, John also served as mentor and advisor to many clergy and parishes.
John was a generous host, a compassionate carer and had a curiosity which made him a lifelong learner. Always with a warm sense of humour, he naturally fell into the role of teacher, leader and guide in all his endeavours. After retirement, John continued service to the Diocese and also pursued his other interests: singing in the Cantabile Chorale of York Region and the Toronto Classical Singers and volunteering as a Member of the Welcome Team at Toronto Pearson Airport.
We are grateful for the excellent care provided by Drs. Buchman, Jackson and Robson, nurses Tina and Steve and many others.
Visitation will be held at St. Matthew the Apostle, Oriole (80 George Henry Blvd) on Thursday, November 21 from 7-9pm and Friday, November 22 from 10-10:30am, followed by a Requiem Eucharist at 11am. As John made an impact on so many and seating may be limited, a livestream will also be available.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to St. Matthew the Apostle, Oriole Anglican Church, The Anglican Foundation of Canada or the Freeman Centre for the Advancement of Palliative Care at NYGH.
