Born on March 17, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario, only child of Richard Maudsley and Winnifred Louise Maudsley (nee Barth), he is predeceased by them and by his beloved wife Ruth Maudsley (nee Hayden) (November 5, 1933-July 12, 1989).
Educated in Toronto at John Wanless School and Lawrence Park Collegiate, he left high school before graduation, preferring to explore the school of life, in particular his time spent in Banff.
He dedicated over 30 years of his working life to Armbro Holdings eventually becoming Chairman of the Board.
A keen sportsman and sports fan, golf was a lifelong favourite past-time, from teenage years at Summit Golf Club through adult years at Summit and Rosedale golf clubs. He also fully enjoyed skiing throughout North America, especially with Eddie Hunter in the Canadian Rockies.
When not on the golf course or ski slopes, he was a avid member of the Cal-Tor Poker Club. John was a lifelong learner, an extraordinarily voracious reader and automobile enthusiast.
Later in life, John retired to Midland where made many new friends, especially Doug Plumb.
He is survived by his loving children and grandchildren - Catherine Ruth Maudsley and her late husband John Lloyd Roberts and daughter Ruth Lloyd Roberts; John Hayden Maudsley and his wife Mary (Maria Pia Zuccon) and children Matthew Hayden Paul Maudsley and Emma Louise Nella Maudsley; and James Jordan Maudsley and his partner Maria (Greco) and James's children Ashley Ruth Maudsley and John James Maudsley.
Friends may call at the TRULL “NORTH TORONTO” FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 2704 Yonge St. (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave.) on Saturday, February 25 from 2-5 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, February 26 at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Hearing Society would be appreciated.
