John Lusch

John Lusch Sr. passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital with his family at his side on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023 in his 92nd year. He was a loving and devoted husband to Theresa Lusch (nee Amma). Loving and caring father to John Jr. (Joan), Walter (Cheryl) and Manfred (Johanne). Loving Opa to Carly (Nathaniel), Dana, Aaron and Ashley and Step Opa to Sean and Kyle.

John was born in Backa Palanka, Yugoslavia on July 26, 1931. After fleeing the war John immigrated to Germany and came to Canada in 1952. Having arrived in Halifax he settled with his parents in Downtown Toronto where he met his future wife at the Blue Danube Club in Toronto where they danced several nights a week. John and Theresa got married in 1954 and moved to Willowdale, Ont and started their family there. John started his career with Grey Coach Lines as a Diesel Mechanic which later was acquired by TTC and worked 36 years at the Parkdale/Duncan Garage. John spent his summers at their cottage on Lake Simcoe with his 3 boys where he taught them how to waterski and catch the biggest fish. Opa delighted in spending time with his 4 grandchildren taking them swimming, fishing and playing games. John loved his coffee, brandy and beer and all of his grandchildren were well trained with preparing his coffee after dinner with his dessert.

John and Theresa spent many hours volunteering at the Blue Danube Club organizing events, dances and other functions. John especially enjoyed his weekly card games with his friends.

John spent his retirement years buying and repairing bicycles and lawn mowers to keep his mechanical skills sharp. Word got out about his expertise, and he quickly had a steady stream of customers knocking on his door looking for purchases or repairs.

In the last years John and Theresa resided at the Canterbury Retirement Residence and he was well known for his generosity, sense of humour, compassion, kindness and gratitude. He will dearly be missed by all.

Rest in Peace John/Dad/Opa. You will make Heaven a better place!

A visitation for John will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M2M4K4. A Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 in the chapel.
