John (Jack) Richard McLeod 1922 – 2016 (retired Excelsior/Aetna Insurance). Passed away peacefully in Toronto at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre on Saturday December 10th, 2016 aged 94 years. Born in Toronto, Ontario on August 8th 1922. Jack was predeceased by his parents Archibald Peter McLeod (1885 – 1944) and Mary Cecile nee O’Brien (1885 – 1974). Also by his two older siblings Eleanor Campbell Stuart (1917 – 1953) and Arthur Bruce McLeod (1915 – 1997), and his late wife Betty Lorraine McLeod nee Carlton (1919 - 2003). Beloved uncle of Barry Stuart, Arthur Bryan McLeod (Wendy) of Bermuda, and Barbara Lorraine Butler of Toronto, and great uncle of Sara, Adam and Alexander. Fondly remembered by Elizabeth Wardell, Gord, Jayne, Danielle (Tyler Morris), and Nicole Turvey. Also his many friends and neighbours at 1080 Kingston Road where he resided for almost 50 years. Until this year Jack kept in touch for monthly lunches at the Toronto Hunt with former coworkers Al Crawford and Walter Jones, last surviving members of the “Poker Club”. Jack was a very generous and industrious gift giver and was famed within his extended family for his themed gift baskets which seemed to grow larger and more elaborate every year. He will be remembered in our hearts forever.
He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, enlisting at Manning Depot, at the CNE. Jack served as a Program Specialist from ’41-’46, on a number of bases Mount Jolie, Montreal; Edmonton; Mount Hope; Trenton, and Desoronto, Mohawk Airport. After being discharged he joined Excelsior/Aetna Insurance, rising to Assistant Internal Audit Financial Division before he retired.
Visitation will be held at Jerrett Funeral Home, 660 Kennedy Road, Scarborough on Wednesday December 14 from 11-12 noon, with service to follow in the chapel. Reception 12:30 in the lounge, internment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the many fine caregivers who made his final years as peaceful as possible. In particular, although there were many others, Dr. Law for over 30 years of care, as well as the staff of Sunnybrook Hospital, especially the compassionate staff members at the Veterans Centre, L Wing Third Street West. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunnybrook Veterans Centre.
