I was sorry to hear recently ofJoan Neilson's death.
 Miss Neilson was my history teacher at EYCI, where my father also taught. She was enthusiastic and optimistic and clearly had a great love of her subject. 
A memorable event was to be chosen, with three other of my classmates, to travel to New York City to attend a session of the U.N. Assembly in the fall of 1959.
Miss Neilson accompanied us as chaperone and guide. Her insights and knowledge gave us a deep appreciation for the institution and its work.
I remember her well, especially throughout my own career as a high-school teacher of English.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Joan.  I remember her fondly from meeting her when I did speaking at Glenview and at a variety of WMS events when I worked for Presbyterian World Service & Development and then when I moved to the Stewardship department at The Presbyterian Church in Canada.  She was friends with my next door neighbour, Helen Oakes, so we often shared talks together.  She had a wonderful spirit - lots of feist and very joyful.  Sending condolences to her family. 

Dear family of Joan Neilson -- I am a curator at the ROM and had the pleasure to get to know Joan over many years. I will always remember her smiling face on the 6th floor of the curatorial centre when she would come for the Bishop White meetings. She sought me out because her father had connections to Asia having travelled there many times. As well she had good family friends the Corrys who spent much time there. Over the years, Joan passed on to me Asian items she had in her possession for the ROM collection, from an Indian painting to smaller curiosities her father picked up. She was such a gentle soul and I am so sorry to learn she is gone. I think of her and will remember her.

With deepest regret and sorrow of the passing of Joan Neilson who was my Father's Cousin. My Father Fred Neilson passed away in 2019. Fond memories of a distant Aunt who was so close to our family and very generous with Christmas and Bithdays for my Daughters Chloe and Natalie. Rest in peace.

So very sorry to hear about Joan.   She was my father in law's first cousin.  A lovely lady with a kind heart.  She visited with us in North Yorkshire, England, and she came to visit us in Massachusetts for our daughter's christening and meet my family.  My husband and our children were luckily to visit Joan in Toronto.  She will be extremely missed by us.

It was my lucky day when Joan became my mentor when I began teaching at EYCI  more than 50 years ago.  From mentor to a friendship that lasted until she passed.
I cherished her advice, humour and the goodness she saw in all people.

Joan was an exceptional human. 
Continuing my teaching career in 1978 at  East York Collegiate, I met a kind lady, Joan.  She was not in the same department as I was, but she was always there with a smile and guidance when needed.  I remember her performances during the “ annual teachers’ Christmas show”.  She was grand! (I was too shy to participate.)  
Always thoughtful, I also remember the lovely gift she gave my newborn daughter. I treasure these memories.

My sincerest condolences to Joan’s family.  
May her memory be eternal.

Joan was a lifelong learner and teacher. She had a passion for history, for the ROM, for her church and her friends. She showed so much compassion towards those in need and took so much interest in the lives of family and friends. She was my colleague and my friend, and she will be dearly missed.
