Mr. Gregory Grant Martel

October 12, 1958- May 29, 2013

Suddenly Wednesday May 29, 2013 in his 54th year, Greg suffered a fatal heart attack. He is survived by his loving daughters Leah, and Kelly, step-father Bob, sisters Jessica and Jenifer, brother Mark Crawford, and nephews Joshua and Jordan. Predeceased by his father Stanley, mother Jackie, brothers Darryl and Jeff. Greg was raised by his father Stan Martel and step Mother. They were born in Winnipeg but lived in Vancouver BC during their childhood. Greg resided in many cities all over Canada including Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Toronto. Greg started playing drums when he was 8 with his school in Vancouver, he moved to Toronto at the age of 14 where he lived with his mom and Bob. The first thing they did was buy him a drum set and encouraged his passion, Greg loved playing, singing, and writing music. He was a man who really could do it all. Greg was very handsome with a wonderful smile and contagious laugh, his huge heart often steered him into helping others, thinking of you when you least expected it, and always trying to put a smile on someone’s face. That of course did not include when you were up against him playing pool… you were definitely on the losing side, even if you thought you were a shoe in because he offered to play you with only one hand. Greg can now rest and look down on us all with his parents and brothers all together again. Another important side of Greg was his native heritage that he was very proud of and held dear to his heart. Greg will be greatly missed and his life will be celebrated and remembered by his loving daughters and family, and his precious cat Skitter. The Memorial service will be held Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 2pm, viewing will be held between 10am and 2pm at the Trull Funeral Home at 1111 Danforth Avenue, Toronto. There will be a celebration of his life on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the Black Swan at 154 Danforth Ave. Toronto starting at 8pm, all friends and music colleagues are invited to attend.
