Georgina Hooper (nee Antrobus) passed away peacefully with family by her side on March 26 at 88 years of age. She is survived by ex-husband Albert (Ester) and children John, James, Nancy, Barbara (Allan) and Julie Conlon (Des). Her adored grandchildren are Jeff, Cynthia, Mary, Dan, Aidan, Declan, Catherine and Matthew. She was predeceased by her parents George and Eliza Jane Antrobus and brothers Bill and Tom.
Georgina was raised in the Coxwell and Gerrard area of Toronto, as a child she had a close relationship with her extended family. She spent many years in the Girl Guides of Canada, first as a member and then as a leader. Later she became Oops, a clown with the Scarborough Corps of Clowns. She brought smiles to the faces of many children at parades and community events, often while driving her clown car with its “HERE COMES OOPS” sign. She also loved quilting, gardening and learning about her family through genealogy.
Georgina had a gift for nurturing children and pets. She met every challenge with patience, wisdom, endless energy and an open heart. With her own five kids plus a few spares over the years, she was often tested but dealt with every situation with love and empathy. Whether kids, dogs or cats, those most in need often found their way to her door.
Time spent building and later enjoying the family cottage near Huntsville on South Tasso Lake were some of her favorite times. She loved to swim and canoe and generously shared her knowledge of wildflowers, animal tracks and constellations, with all who would listen.
The family wishes to thank Joy Buslon, Georgina’s caregiver and closest friend for the past several years. We could not have managed without her. We would also like to thank the excellent care team at Houses of Providence, Cedar Wing.
In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to do so, a donation to the Toronto Humane Society in Georgina’s honour would be appreciated. A small Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.giffenmackdanforth.com for the HOOPER family.
