Ella was the youngest of thirteen children, and was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, to loving parents Maurice Arncliff Johnson and Josephine Johnson (nee Pitcher). Ella was married to Charles Chandler (predeceased), for 34 years. They had no children, but Ella leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
Ella called East York home for the past 65 years where she became very involved in the community, and befriended many people. She loved to be surrounded by friends and family. She was always participating in seniors programming, especially at Harmony Hall where she loved to play Euchre. Ella also was part of a church choir, as she loved to sing and play piano.
Ella was full of personality and loved to have fun. She loved to go bowling, dance, and to travel. She will be fondly remembered for her quirky sense of humour, and colourful expressions. When asked what her secret was for living such a long life, she would say it was staying physically active, and also having a little bit of scotch or brandy.
