Edward James McIlwain

1926 - 2013

Passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 18, 2013 at his home, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary (Casella). Loving father of Beverly, Linda De Giorgio (Nick), Cindy, Kelly (Jim Prymak). Proud and devoted grandfather to Michael and Anthony. Edward was born in Fort William, Ontario (now Thunder Bay). After following Mary to Toronto in 1948, they wed in 1950 and raised their four girls. Ed worked in the construction industry as a plasterer until his retirement. He took great delight in his grandsons' achievements, including their sports pursuits, from Little League Baseball to University of Toronto Varsity Blues Basketball, where all the players knew him as "Pops".

He is survived by his sister Wilma Ventrudo (Bert) of Thunder Bay and his brother-in-law Joseph "Pino" Casella of Toronto.

Ed was predeceased by his sister Norah Gilham (Albert), his brother Henry "Harry" (Beatrice), his sister Kathleen "Kay" Sample and his Casella family in-laws.

He will be missed by Carole, Donna, Carla and his many other nieces and nephews.

We will all remember his kind spirit, his never-ending work ethic and his devotion to his family and friends. Family and Friends will be received at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. W. (1 block east of Dufferin St.) on Wednesday from 7-9pm and on Thursday from 3-5pm & 7-9pm. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, January 25, 2013 in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11am.
