It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Edward Glauser on January 16, 2024. Known fondly as Funny/Great Grampy by family members, he was born in London, England in 1923 to Swiss parents. Edward was raised in Switzerland by his grandmother and aunt from age 6 to 16 in a rural farming community, after which he returned to England and joined the Air Cadets. He fulfilled his dream to fly, becoming a Royal Air Force pilot of the Catalina flying boat in World War II. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Annie Quinton Wilson, and they came to Toronto in 1947. He worked for Canadian General Electric in advertising and sales promotion and was a member of the CGE Quarter Century Club. Edward always lived life to the fullest and celebrated his 100th birthday last May.
Great Grampy is known for his love of children, his fun-loving nature (the Tickle Monster), his sense of adventure, his enjoyment of walking in parks and feeding squirrels, his kindness and compassion for others, his love of music, dancing, kibitzing, and—his greatest passion—just making people smile every day.
Edward will be sadly missed by his four daughters and their partners, Linda (Ron), Shirley (Pavel), Audrey (Ken), and Marlene (Joseph); his eight grandchildren and their partners, Chris (Nikki), Tasha (Dan), Hypatia (Tal), Kyle (Brianne), Warren (Caylin), Tryphena (Adam), Agathon, and Cataline (Tessa); and ten great-grandchildren, Dawson, Kaya, Makenna, Cedric, Hudson, Raiden, Emerson, Iris, Brynlee, and Marcus.
It is with immense pride and love that we will celebrate his life on Sunday, January 28 at the Giffen-Mack & Trull Funeral Home (2570 Danforth Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4C 1L3). Friends of the family are invited to join the visitation from 12 to 2 pm and the service at 2 pm in the chapel with a reception following at Giffen-Mack.
In lieu of flowers, Edward has requested that donations be made to charity. Suggestions include The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Scarborough Health Network, The Friends of Algonquin Park, The Salvation Army, or another charity of your choosing.
