“Through his eyes, we learned the true essence of love and resilience. We are forever grateful for the life he made possible.”
Carlos Erwing Lopez, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Born in Nuevo San Carlos, Retalhuleu, Guatemala, Carlos lived a life filled with love, resilience, and dedication. He began his career as a nurse in Guatemala, caring for his community with compassion and empathy. Carlos found joy in life's simple yet extraordinary pleasures, particularly swimming, gardening, and barbecuing.
At the age of 27, Carlos married the love of his life, Maria del Rosario Lopez, and together they built a wonderful family of six, rooted in love and strength.
Due to political unrest in his homeland, Carlos sought refuge in Canada, arriving with dreams of a better future. Despite the challenges of learning a new language, he worked tirelessly as a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor at Hurley Co., where he was a proud member of LiUNA 183 for over 25 years.
Carlos was devoted to his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. His life was a testament to resilience, love, and the enduring strength of family.
He is survived by his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren. Carlos's kindness, determination, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Let us all strive to continue his legacy of love and resilience in our own lives.
Vuela muy alto, Papa. Abuelo!
Visitation for Carlos will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street, Toronto, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
