William P. McCarthy, 86, of Toms River passed away on Wednesday January 16th at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was raised in Staten Island and lived in Bay Ridge Brooklyn before moving to Toms River 17 years ago. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served as a radioman on the SS Kenneth Whiting during WW II. He was an electrician with the LIRR for more than 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the VFW Post #10185 in Holiday City and a member of the Social Club, Men’s Club and Pairs and Squares, all of Holiday City South.
William was predeceased by two sons, John and William McCarthy. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Volk McCarthy; his son Patrick McCarthy, Glenn Volk and his wife Theresa , Vicki Gruschow and her husband Jim. He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday January 20, 2012 from 1 to 5 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A funeral service will take place at 4:30 PM.
