Walter G. Mills, 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 14. Walter was a beloved husband, father, & Pop-Pop. Walter was born in Jersey City and lived in Carteret for many years before moving to Toms River in 1996. He was retired from the United States Postal Service in 2015, but continued on to be the treasurer for the Local APWU for many years. He was an active member of Saint Joseph’s Church, also serving as treasurer for the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. Walter was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He had an avid love for the Yankees, Cowboys, & Celtics and enjoyed watching the teams play.
Walter leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Suzan, his daughter Melissa & her husband Tom, his daughter Kimberly & her husband Matt, and his son Walter. He also will be extremely missed by his adored grandchildren Brielle, Ryleigh, Noah, and Cameron.
Walter’s funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 17th at 11am at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church (685 Hooper Avenue) in Toms River followed by a repast at the Knights of Columbus (113 Tennyson Avenue). Walter was not a suit & tie guy so please feel free to wear a sports shirt to the funeral.
