Silvio Joseph Rizzolo (“Rizz”), of Toms River, New Jersey, was known for his kind, gentle and loving spirit and dedication to his family and friends. He passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at the age of 86 due to complications from Covid-19. Silvio spent the past six months living at Alcoeur Gardens Residential Community being cared for by kind and compassionate staff.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, he was a longtime resident of Nutley where he and his wife, Maureen Burke Rizzolo, raised their three children.
Silvio is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lena Rizzolo, his son, Martin Rizzolo and sister, Edith Rizzolo Cahoon.
Silvio is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maureen Burke Rizzolo and children, James Joseph Rizzolo (Lisa) and Mary Jo Rizzolo Martone (Brian) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Silvio spent the majority of his professional career as a Cathodic Protection Engineer for Engelhard Industries in Newark, NJ. He holds multiple patents, including those for Thermocouple Structure and Slip Ring Assembly, but those who knew and loved him best, thought he deserved one for his signature eggplant parmesan as no family gathering would be complete without it.
A private service will be held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 11:00 am at Quinn Hopping Funeral Home in Toms River, followed by entombment at St Joseph's Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums. A future memorial service will be held when we can all commune to celebrate the life of this wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Rizz’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org.
