Richard C. "Dick" Kroon Sr., 86, of Whiting, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in New Brunswick, he lived in East Brunswick and Seaside Park before moving to Whiting five years ago. Dick owned and operated OK Building Co. for 25 years, and later worked as a union carpenter through the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local #1006 in Milltown. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Milltown Lodge No. 294, F.&A.M. Dick served as a deacon at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Milltown and as an elder at The Union Church of Seaside Park.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years, Gladys (Fahrenholz) Kroon; two sons, Richard C. Kroon Jr. and his wife Ellyn of Bayville, and Jeffrey R. Kroon and his wife Marybeth Kretz-Kroon of Toms River; two daughters, Jennifer Kroon of San Jose, Calif., and Stephanie Kroon and her partner Richard Messer of Rhinebeck, N.Y.; two brothers, Frederick Kroon and his wife Katherine of Seaside Park, and Robert Kroon and his wife Ronnie of North Brunswick; and six grandchildren, Hayley, Jonathan, Kyle, Elizabeth, Kerri and David.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28 at the funeral home.
