Born in Newark, he resided in West Orange for most of his life before settling in the Holiday City South community of Berkeley three years ago.
Prior to retiring, Richard was a machinist for AK Stamping in Mountainside, NJ, where he worked for over 10 years. Richard was a big sports fan, but his two main teams were the Mets and the Jets, and was very happy to talk to anyone about his teams. Very involved in the West Orange PAL baseball and football leagues, he often coached his childrens' teams and volunteered in many ways throughout the organization. He was also very involved in bowling leagues throughout the state and made many friends being a member of different teams.
He was predeceased by his parents: Stanley and Sophie Babula; and his sisters: Elizabeth Huggins, Ida Betz-Frank, and Mary Ann Jones.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Ann; his children: Jason Babula and his wife Melissa, David Babula, Terri Madriz and her husband Juan, and Tina Babula; his grandchildren: Amanda, Owen, Natalie, and Matthew; and his siblings: John Babula, Stan Babula, and June Montalvo; and many nieces and nephews.
