Mary (Dethlefsen) Jurgensen, 90, passed away peacefully in her cottage at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community in Quarryville, PA, on Monday, November 6, 2023. She is the daughter of the late John and Julie Dethlefsen. She is the beloved wife of the late Werner Jurgensen for 62 years.
Mary was born in Bayonne, NJ where she resided most of her life. She and her late husband were co-owners of the Globe Delicatessen. Upon retiring they were seasonal residents in both Toms River, NJ and Davenport, FL. In 2021 Mary moved to PA to be cared for by her daughter.
She is preceded in death by her brother, John (Marjorie) Dethlefsen and cousins who were raised as siblings, Gertrude (George) Grillo, John (Helen) Lorensen, Cornelius (Ann) Lorensen, and Goddaughter, Lorraine Dethlefsen.
Mary is survived by her three children: John Sr. (Diane) Jurgensen of Barnegat, NJ; William Sr. (Aida) Jurgensen of Bayonne, NJ; and Janet (Joseph III) Kalinowski of Lancaster, PA.
She is the dearest grandmother to: John Jr. (Kelly); Erik (girlfriend Jennifer Butler); Matthew (Hillary); William Jr. (Patricia); Chad (fiancé Kerry Fisher); Liana (Tristan) Savona; Christian; Johanna (Brad) Koehler; Juliana (Brad) Cieszynski; Jenna (Kyle) Kessler; Vincent Miranda and Elizabeth (Jessica) Miranda.
Her favorite title of Oma was to her pride and joy, her 17 great-grandchildren: Liam, Hallee, Conner, Jaye, Marlowe, Olivia, William III, Evelyn, Noah, Tyler, Lindsay, Brooke, Jordynn, Brinley, Kennedy, Raine, Bodhi and another due in January.
Surviving is her brother, James (Ann) Dethlefsen, sister-in-law Barbara, wife of the late Hugo Jurgensen, nephews, great nephews, great niece and former daughter-in-law, Donna Mongiello.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10am – 12 noon at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A service will be celebrated at 12 noon. Burial will take place immediately following at the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
