Born and raised in Nutley, Kenny spent his childhood summers at Lake Mohawk in Sparta. He later lived in West Orange before retiring to Silver Ridge in Toms River in 1981. He graduated from Nutley High School and Essex County Vo Tec. He worked with great pleasure at Westinghouse Electric in Newark for 40 years as an electrical draftsman.
Kenny was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for his service in the US Army at the Battle of Bulge in WWII where he lost his leg at age 19. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Silver Ridge Men’s Club. Kenny was a kind and special man whose charming smile, gentle demeanor, wit and ability to enjoy the small pleasures in life will be forever held in our hearts and memories.
He was pre-deceased by his devoted wife, Wee Wee (Ann Rappaport) in 1996 and his nieces Nancy Oldfield Valvano and Patricia Degnan. He is survived by his friend and sister-in-law, Dorothy Oldfield, his niece, Kathryn Oldfield her partner Karin Nieuwenhuis and their children Tess & Tim, great nieces Brienne and Alicia Valvano and great-great nephews Tyler and Alex, nephews, Steven Degnan, John, Edward and Charles Rappaport.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club in Sparta on Sunday, February 2nd from 1:30 – 3:30 with prayers and sharing at 2pm. The burial with Military Honors will take place on Monday, February 3rd at 2pm in the Chapel at the VA Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
