Born in Ireland, he immigrated to the United States in 1960 and resided in the Bronx. He lived in Dumont for many years before settling in the Holiday City Community of Berkeley 15 years ago.
Prior to retiring, he worked as a building manager for the 784 Park Avenue Co-Op in New York City. Joseph was very involved in the Emerald Guild and was honored for helping other Irish immigrants find jobs in the building service industry. He was also an avid fan of the GAA and followed it all of his life.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Catherine; by his sister, Nan; and by his brother, John.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret; his children: Thomas Kissane and his wife Barbara, Patrick Kissane and his wife Stephanie, and Karen Ridings and her husband Philip; his grandchildren (who he adored): Ashley, Courtney, Thomas "TJ", Michael, Michele, Madison, and Kennedy; two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Westin; and his siblings: Patjoe, Thomas, Norann, Breda, and Kathleen.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 4-8PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 12pm at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley. A private cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 130 St. Maximilian Lane, Berkeley, NJ 08757.
