John L. Hally

John Leonard Hally, 81, of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by love on April 1, 2023, after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

John was born on December 15, 1941 to John and Josephine Hally of Summit, NJ. After John graduated from Summit High School he enlisted in the US Marine Corp. He traveled to Okinawa, Japan for training and served his time in various locations.

Upon completing his time in the service, he became a police officer in his hometown of Summit, NJ. He was a police officer for 17 years and made many special friends while on the police force, and enjoyed proudly serving his community.

He then became head security guard at Ciba Geigey, that later became Novartis.

He raised his beloved two children in Summit, and was very proud of them being the third generation in his cherished city.

He met his lovely wife Rose in 1992 and they were married in 1994.

They resided in Verona, NJ, before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC, and later York, PA.

Since 2004, they have lived in Toms River, where he was a security guard in their community of Holiday City South. They enjoyed their time actively in the community, where he played golf and attended many social events and activities with his wife and neighbors.

He remained active in the Marine Corp League Detachment #667, the PBA #600 club, and the Knights of Columbus.

John was passionate about his New York Giants and NY Yankees. He loved playing golf and watching his favorite players on the PGA tour. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, and especially watching his kids and grandkids play sports.

He was extremely proud of his grandchildren Lexie and Jack of Manasquan and enjoyed their company tremendously. He cherished time with all of his family (listed below) and kept his interest in all of his loved ones and fabulous sense of humor, right up to the very end of his life.

John was predeceased by his loving parents John and Jo Hally, his beloved sister Linda Hally Savio and his cousin Jerry Killoran. He is survived by his devoted angel of a wife and partner, Rose Hally, daughter and son-in-law Valerie Hally Minton and Michael Minton, grandchildren Lexie and Jack Minton, son John Hally and wife Jenny, step-daughter MacKenzie, step-son Richie Maddock and wife Barbara, step-grandson Christopher Maddock and wife Hallie, step-grandson Richard Maddock and wife Jennifer, step-grandchildren Ethan, Cooper, Lucas, and Emmarie Maddock, sister Lorraine Canada and family, brother Billy Hally and family, Sister Rita Johnson and family, brother-in-law Gino Savio and family, and cousin Tommy Killoran and his family.
