Faith Downs Roberts, 80, of Island Heights, NJ, died at home on June 9, 2018, after a long illness. She earned degrees from Arcadia, Georgian Court, and Columbia Universities and was a lifelong advocate for children with disabilities, initially as a teacher of the deaf and later as a learning consultant.
An intrepid traveler, she explored Western Europe and Japan in her youth and in later years ranged from Central Europe to Arctic Canada. Montreal was a favorite destination, as was The London Theater District. An enthusiastic and accomplished choral singer from childhood, she participated over most of her lifetime in choruses sponsored variously by The Fred Waring Organization, Westminster Choir College, and Ocean County College, under choral directors such as Robert Shaw, Sir David Willcocks, and Charles Read. For nearly forty years, Faith enjoyed summers in Vermont, with music at The Saratoga Performing Arts Center in adjacent New York.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Roberts; her daughter, Carol Roberts of Middlebury, VT; and her son Alexander Roberts and grandson Fletcher Roberts of Tucson, AZ; and her sister Charity Downs of Rutland, VT.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, June 12th, 2018, from 1 to 3 PM, at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753.
