Born in Brooklyn, she resided in Edison for most of her life before settling in the Holiday Heights community of Berkeley over 30 years ago.
Prior to retiring, Ethel was a registered nurse and worked at Middlesex Regional Hospital, later known as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. She was also a volunteer on the Holiday Heights First Aid Squad for 30 years. Ethel was a long-time parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River, where she attended services every Sunday.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ellsworth in 1974; her son, Jonathan Gernandt; her brother, Edward Ryan; and her granddaughter, Tara Panella.
Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Redstone and her husband James; her son, Ellsworth Gernandt and his wife Patricia; her grandson, Brian Baile; and her great-grandchildren: Justin, Casey, and Mia. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was beloved by all of her family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 1-4PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A funeral service will be held in conjunction with the visitation at 3:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ethel's name to the Holiday Heights First Aid Squad.
