Elizabeth Ruth Figlar was born Elizabeth Ruth Patti on February 21, 1943 in Clifton, NJ. She passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 12th, 2019. She was the youngest of nine children. She was known to family and friends as Betty, Aunt Bet, Mom, and Grammy. Her parents emigrated to the US from Italy and she grew up with a large, close-knit extended family. Betty married George Figlar on May 26, 1962. They moved to Toms River, NJ in 1967, raised four children and spent 57 years of marriage together.
Elizabeth will be remembered as the kindest and most dedicated sister, wife, mother and grandmother who tirelessly helped everyone around her. She was selfless, endlessly generous and loving, and welcoming to everyone. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. She was compassionate and supportive, always putting the needs of others before her own. Without fail you could depend on her. You still can, as she lived her life with a moral insight and strength of character instilling deep-seated values that will live on for generations to come.
Betty enjoyed traveling, cooking, swimming in her pool, reading the Bible, sunsets, crime dramas and science fiction series, and was a word game enthusiast. Most of all, she valued spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, George Figlar, her four children, Paul Durana and spouse Bill Nagle of Middleton, NJ, Donna and her husband Peter Louch of Encinitas, CA, Denise and husband Scott Wilson of Brooklyn, NY, Greg and wife Bridget Figlar of Toms River, NJ. Siblings John Patti, Daniel Patti, Rose Van Ostenbridge, Marie Dekker of Toms River, NJ. Grandchildren Oona, Skylar, Liam, Clayton, Ella, Finley, Konner, Lyla, Caila, Sophina, and Xada.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a Service at 3:30 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River, NJ. Cremation will be private.
