Dorothy (Dot, Dottie) Wilson, age 88, of Toms River, passed away on March 21, 2024, at home with her family by her side. Dot was born in New Hampshire on September 19, 1935, a daughter of the late Joseph and Angeline Stelmak. She was raised in Kearny and eventually settled in Lyndhurst to raise her family. In 1986, she moved to Toms River to be closer to her children.
Dorothy was an employee of NJ Bell (Verizon) before retiring. Dottie enjoyed spending time with her family, gathering with friends to travel or to play bingo and mahjong, and loved bargain shopping. She loved all animals and in her younger days, she could be seen at a local park walking with her family’s dog. She also got pleasure in feeding and watching birds in her wooded yard. She could also often be found engrossed in a good book at the local library. Dorothy will be fondly remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Dorothy is survived by her four children: sons, Larry Wilson, Kenny Wilson, and Joe (daughter-in-law Rags) Wilson and daughter, Cindy (son-in-law Bill) Rice. She also leaves behind one granddaughter, Tara Rice and three grandsons, Brian, Douglas and Christopher Wilson and 4 great grandchildren, along with multiple step grand and step great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind one sister, Joan Gruttadauria and many nieces and nephews.
Services are private at the convenience of family.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Blvd, Brick, NJ 08723, which was a favorite of Dottie’s.
