Dorothy E. Simon (Ramsauer) passed away peacefully May 6, 2024, at home. She was born and raised in Irvington and moved to Fords for 44 years before moving to Berkeley Township, Silver Ridge West. She was a congregant at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Fords.
During her high school years, she worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. in Newark. After graduation, she worked for Weston Electric, Elizabeth, RCA, Avenel, Bamberger’s Furniture Warehouse, Edison, and worked 10 years for Wang Laboratories, Iselin, where she retired from. She had also waitressed at the Black Bull, The Treehouse, and the Barge in Perth Amboy.
She was an avid bowler, bowling with the Women’s Bowling League of Metuchen. When she moved to Berkeley Township, she became the president of the Silver Ridge West Bowling League for many years, she enjoyed it so much.
As her children were growing up, she was very active with all of them. In the Girl Scouts, she was a Brownie Leader, a Den Mother in the Cub Scouts, and an aide in the Boy Scouts. She was also an officer in the Fords Clara Barton Boys Baseball League and a coach in the Fords Youth Association Girl Softball League. She was an active blood donor, giving her blood into her 80’s. She has been an officer in the Berkeley Township Women’s Republican Club and worked in the election polls for many years.
She had a passion for and loved to send cards to everyone throughout the area and to her loved ones as well. Birthday, get well, anniversaries, holidays and “Just Because”. She always found the good in everyone. She blessed the lives of everyone she met throughout her life.
She was a devoted mother, wife, friend, and caregiver to all. Anyone who knew her loved her. Three of her sons served in the military, as did her husband, 2 brothers, and her father.
She was predeceased by her husband of 8 years, Victor J. Simon II (2016); her parents Charlotte and Fred Ramsauer; 3 sisters, Etta, Charlotte, and Barbara; 2 brothers, Henry and Fred; her son, Steve (2015); and her grandchild, Elizabeth Rozek (2014).
Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children, Victor of Aberdeen, Cathy of Toms River, Carl of Norfolk, VA, and Curt of Red Bank; 4 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 12pm to 4pm at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
