Donald H. Strunck Sr., 92, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on October 15, 2018, at Alcoeur Gardens in Toms River. He was born in Orange, NJ, to the late Harry and Hazel Strunck, and grew up in Maplewood. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Cuba. Returning home, he became an Installer for Western Electric in Asbury Park. Donald was a long time resident of Toms River for 66 years. He was an original charter member of East Dover Fire Co #4, and has served as Chief and President. In addition, Donald was a Fire Commissioner for Dover Township Fire District 1. He taught at the Fire College, then worked for ten years at Toms River Fire Prevention as an Inspector. He led the Public Education Division and became affectionately known as “Fireman Don” by hundreds of school aged children. Donald was also a scuba diver and loved to camp. He was a member of Jersey Indians Camping Club. Don’s greatest joy was spending time having fun with his family.
Donald is survived by the love of his life, his wife Yvonne, to whom he was married 66 years; his cherished children: Donna Strunck and Donald H. Strunck Jr. and wife Veronica of Manahawkin; and two wonderful grandchildren Christopher and Alicia.
Visitation will be Friday, October 19th, from 2-4 & 7-9PM, at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 10AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to East Dover Fire Co. #4 in Toms River in memory of Donald.
