Daniel A. Murphey died on November 1, 2023 at Independance Manor in Flemington, NJ, in the arms of his Godson, Daniel Torrone, and his very special caregivers, Rovi and Simon. He passed away in the early morning after a yearlong battle with cancer. He died peacefully and quietly in a loving and comfortable setting.
Uncle Dan, as he was affectionately known by many, was born the 9th out of 10 children, known lovingly as “The Murphys”. They were as close a family of 10 as you would ever find! He is predeceased by his soulmate and partner in crime, Margie Murphy. For 61 years they were inseparable having traveled the world together. They shared a passion for the game of golf and found themselves golfing in exotic locations all over the world. The two were rarely referred to as anything other than “Danny and Margie,” other than when they were at work. It was always, “Danny and Margie.” They did everything together up until Margie’s passing in 2021.
Uncle Dan grew up in the Rosebank section of Staten Island, NY, and went to St. Mary’s Primary School and McKee High School. He then joined the Army, where he served from December 6, 1954 until December 5, 1956 when he was honorably discharged Private First Class. He was stationed in Iceland. He would often say the temperature would get down to 25 degrees below zero during his time serving there.
He worked a number of jobs when he returned home from the service. Eventually he settled on a career with Chase Manhattan Bank. He worked there for over 25 years before retiring.
Uncle Dan was predeceased by his mother and father, Angelina and William Murphy; brothers and sisters, Johnny, Margaret, Betty, David, Anna and William; sister and brother-in-laws, Florence, Ruth, John, Bob M., Mike, Bob W. and Pete; and, nephews, William, Harold and Ricky.
He is survived by his sisters, Dolores and Dorothy; baby brother Richie; sister-in-laws, Mary and Barbara; a host of niece and nephews; and, many extended family and dear friends from a life well lived.
