Charles J. Scherer age 91 of Toms River died Thursday February 9th at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He worked for Weston Electrical, Newark and then he owned Stelton Hardware and Paint, Piscataway from 1955 until retiring in 1979. He was veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air force. Mr. Scherer was a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley Twp., a member of VFW Post # 8352, a member of the Men’s Club, Golf Club and a former member of the Bowling club of Silver Ridge Park Westerly. Born in Orange he lived in East Brunswick from 1957 until moving to Toms River in 1983.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years Margaret, 6 children Robert and his wife Gemma of Surprise, AZ, Richard and his wife Nancy of Sayreville, Patricia DeJesus and her husband John of Ocala, FL, Barbara Pond and her husband Jack of Salisbury, MD, Thomas and his wife Lynn of Manalapan, Jeanne McCusker and her husband Joseph of Marlton, 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Visiting will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Rd. Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 am Tuesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe R. C. Church, Berkeley Twp. Burial will follow at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ.
