Catherine Gumm, known to everyone as Nan passed away on August 15th, 2018 at the age of 81 after a brave battle following emergency surgery. Her Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday, August 19th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a service at 5:00 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River.
Born September 2nd, 1936 in Jersey City, NJ to Dominic DeLucia and Louise Klemple, Catherine moved to Island Heights, NJ, in 1982, where she spent 15 years as an integral part of the IH Grade School family as a custodian and active member of her local church.
Catherine lived a full life, focused on her family, friends and faith. Not one to sit down for long, she raised her two children on her own, as well as her 2 grand-daughters, while working full-time, then eventually retired from work to help raise her great granddaughter, Anna. Her granddaughters would joke that Nan lived for laundry and cleaning and was often “caught” doing things like standing in the sink to change a curtain, at 81 years old.
Nan endured many challenges throughout her life, including medical illnesses that would have taken out a mere mortal long ago. She may have been tiny in stature, but she had more strength and tenacity than anyone around. Nan fought hard to the very end. She is loved by all and will be sincerely missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing this little powerhouse.
Catherine is survived by her grandchildren Aimee Trombino and Heather MacDougall and her fiancé Kamil Walus; her great granddaughter Anna Trombino; her children Joan Zahn and Donald Gumm and his wife Holly; and her brothers Ronnie Klemple and his wife Barbara, Richard DeLucia and Eugene Klemple; and her extended family Stacy Murray, Teri Murray and Nancy Terry, and all those who called her Nan.
