Brett Lee Thompson

On Friday, October 7, 2022, many lives were forever changed when Brett Lee Thompson passed away suddenly at the age of 58. Even as his body failed him in the waning years of his life, he devoted himself to the service of others.

The son of Barbara Jeddeloh and Kirk Lee McIntyre, Brett was born on September 29, 1964 in Grants Pass, Oregon. At 18 years old, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was the beginning of a lifelong spiritual journey that would come to define his life. He served in many church capacities such as missionary, Elder’s Quorum President, and Bishop. Being a Primary teacher was among his favorites!

After completing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah, Brett spent the next 29 years folding people into uncomfortable positions as a physical therapist. On April 23, 1986, he married his soulmate and eternal companion, Beverly Shields. Together, they raised three children: Lyndsi, Alex, and Maddy.

The most important thing to Brett was his family, followed closely by his faith (and University of Utah football). You could find him crawling around with three kids clinging to his back, dancing in the kitchen, or inventing bedtime stories, complete with unique character voices. He never missed a game, a concert, or a date night with Bev.

Brett dedicated his life to seeing the marginalized, loving the lonely, and helping the needy. His greatest joy came through giving to those around him, and his legacy will live on through the hearts and lives of those who he willingly served.

Brett is survived by his wife, Bev; his three children, Lyndsi, Alex (McKenzie), and Maddy; his mother, Barbara; his sisters, Terri (Mark) and Christine (Jason); as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 3900 S 4000 W in West Valley, Utah at 1:00 p.m.
