“Artie” was born on July 14, 1948 in Orange, New Jersey to Arthur and Lillian (Stoppiello). He
was the youngest of 4 children. Sister Jeannie and husband Sam Battista (both deceased),
brother, Joseph and wife Angel, sister Lucille and husband Peter Savino ( both deceased).
Immediately following high school, he joined the United State Marine Corp. He served in
Vietnam and received many medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The Good Conduct Medal and The Purple Heart.
After being honorably discharged, he joined the New Jersey State Police. He served for 21
years as a trooper before retiring in 1991 as a sergeant. He was very proud and honored to
have served in both of these organizations.
He also worked as a truant officer for the Toms River School District after retiring from the State
Police.
He met and married the love of his life, Carol and moved to Ventor, Florida, and finally settled in
Smithville.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol, his sons John and Anthony (wife Kristin) and his bonus
children Gary Bozzini, Jeni Bongiovanni ( husband Steve), Lucille Bongiovanni (fiance Angel
Rodriguez). His grandchildren Marissa, Juliana, Ashley, AJ, Italia, Bongi, and Damien. He
loved his grandchildren and was involved in their activities and was their biggest fan. His baby
boy Max (the dog). He also had many nephews and nieces who he loved.
Art loved his family with all his heart. Anytime he could have them all together made him the
happiest. As long as of course, the Yankees or Giants (depending on the season) were on the
tv!
If he wasn’t with his family, you could find him playing poker, smoking a cigar, or enjoying happy
hour.
He has left a hole in our hearts, but his love will keep our family together.
As he would say…. “I did it my way” …. Frank Sinatra
