Arizona. James was born on June 28, 1934, where he lived to be eighty-seven. He was the eldest
of nine siblings. The surviving siblings are Jessie Strickland, Geneva Tatum, Ann Stevens, Ray
Hoggard, Gary Hoggard, and Wanda Miller. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse
Hoggard and Eva (Watkins) Hoggard, and two brothers, Eugene Hoggard and Louis Hoggard.
James lived with the passion of being an advocate and helping others, which led him to spend the
beginning of his career being a preacher of multiple Baptist Churches. He later turned his hobby
of tinkering with cars into a business. His consoling devotion from being a preacher was evident
in the way he showed care and comfort for his customers. James owned Hoggard’s Car Place in
St. Louis, Missouri with his former wife and surviving children. LaFaun Hoggard, Randall
Hoggard, and Penny Hudspeth grew up with a loving father who taught them the values of
giving and accepting all those encountered, which they carried with them into their adult lives
and in raising their own children, his six grandchildren.
Once retired, James spent his time traveling the world, playing chess, exploring national parks,
visiting loved ones, going on walks in Forest Park, and being a devoted member of the Ethical
Society of St. Louis. James loved being a part of moral discussions, being outdoors, caring for
others, creating special bonds, and appreciating the beauty of life. His imprint will never fade on
the lives he touched and the wings he spread around the world will forever be felt. James will
always be remembered for his sweet soul, giving heart, and attentive presence.
The memorial service will be held at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, 9001 Clayton Rd, St.
Louis, MO 63117, on January 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, James requested for donations to be made to the Ethical Society of St. Louis,
an organization he felt strongly connected to.
