Born in New York City, she was the daughter of John DiStefano, a commercial construction superintendent, and Ann Lombardo, a homemaker. She attended West Islip (NY) High School, destined to meet her future husband, a fellow high school alumnus, J. John Spinella, a medical malpractice insurance executive, in 1966 while he was on active duty with the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Andrews AFB. They married in 1969 and lived initially in Forestville, Maryland; together, they lived in Cortland, New York, Hartford, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, finally settling in Hunt Valley, Maryland in 1983.
A devoted and spiritual person, MaryAnn was a homemaker and volunteer with Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, where she served on the development committee and chaperoned multiple NDPS social functions until her daughters’ graduation in 1990/91. She then worked as a receptionist for MCI Corporation and in the personnel department of Sinai Hospital’s LifeBridge Health Center. In her leisure hours, she enjoyed the theater, rock and roll music, pop culture, Yankees baseball and displaying her vintage Snow Village towns during the Christmas season.
Recalled by her spouse and many friends as a deeply devoted and loving mother to her daughters, a friendly advisor to their classmates, and a natural people person with an infectious laugh; her depth of character and love were often on display during more than fifty years of marriage to John.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two loving daughters and their spouses, Donna and Tom Wither of Havre de Grace, Maryland, Debra and Carmine Rauso of Newtown Square, Pennsylvania; three grandsons: Nicholas, Joseph, and Anthony; a sister Linda, her spouse Gerald Haas, a nephew Tom Sconzo, all of Yaphank, New York; and a niece Shannon and her husband Gerome Gardner of Sunland, California.
