On August 9, 2020, Mary Monte, devoted wife of John Monte; loving mother of Christopher and Stephanie Monte; and caring sister of John Welch, passed away peacefully at home. Mary was born on June 19, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The family moved to Chicago for a brief time and permanently located in Maryland. Mary attended Frostburg State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Mary continued her education at Towson University where she received a degree in art. Mary met John in the winter of 1978 and married one year later. Mary and John had two children, Christopher and Stephanie. After staying home to raise her two children, Mary started a career as a biology teacher at Eastern Technical High School. Because of her background in biology, Mary was asked to develop a forensic science curriculum for Eastern which was then adopted across the Baltimore County school system. Mary continued teaching forensic science to high school seniors until her retirement in 2016.
Following her retirement, Mary loved life and people, and was very active in her community participating in the Lutherville Garden Club and Towson BCPL History Book Group. Mary was an avid animal lover and volunteered at the Maryland SPCA. In retirement, Mary continued her lifelong passion for art with the Zoll Studio of Fine Art where she especially enjoyed plein air painting. Her greatest joy was spending time in front of her painting easel. Mary and John were active members of the Maryland Yacht Club and Golden Anchor Yacht Club. In addition to spending time on their boat, Mary and John also enjoyed traveling and visited Ireland, Italy, Alaska, Quebec, and took a river cruise on the Rhine river.
Mary is also survived by brother in law Mark Monte, sister in law Paula Monte, and nieces and nephews (Sean Wealch and family, Mark Welch and family, Maddi D’Aquila.)
Due to the current situation and out of concern for the health of family and friends, a private service is being held for immediate family members. In liu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the SPCA of Maryland.
