Fr. Daniel was born on August 5, 1950 in Holyoke, MA, the son of Raymond and Florence (nee Laramee) Houde. He was Baptized, received his First Communion, and Confirmed at St. Rose of Lima Church in Chicopee, MA.
He became a Postulant of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives and entered the novitiate on August 11, 1978 taking the title “of the Immaculate Heart.” He made Solemn Vows on December 8, 1984 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, Washington, DC. He was ordained to the Diaconate on March 9, 1985 in the chapel of the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, DC and to the Priesthood on September 27, 1987 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park, NJ.
During his years of priesthood, Fr. Daniel served in parish ministry at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Asbury Park, NJ, St. Ann, Bristol, PA, Our Lady of Mount Carmel- St. Benedicta, Staten Island, NY, Incarnation-St. James Church, Trenton, NJ, Sacred Heart of Mary and St. Rita in Baltimore, MD, Our Lady of Sorrows, Victoria, TX, and Holy Rosary-St. Richard, Palmetto Bay, FL. He also served as a Member of the Provincial Council and as the National Director of the Trinitarian Laity.
Fr. Daniel will always be remembered for his inspiring preaching, care for the sick, hospitalized and homebound, concern for persecuted Christians, and his dedication to religious life and priestly ministry. He served God’s people well, and often expressed gratitude to the Most Holy Trinity, to the members of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and the Captives, and to his family for the blessings he received during his lifetime.
Fr. Daniel is survived by his brother Paul, cousin Leona Doyle, and the priests and brothers of the Order of the Most Holy Trinity and of the Captives. Fr. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents.
Viewing will take place at Holy Rosary-St. Richard Catholic Church, 7500 SW 152nd Street, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass, with Archbishop Thomas Wenski presiding, will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 7:30 PM in the Parish Center.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Monastery, 1400 Underwood Road, Sykesville, MD on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at New Cathedral Cemetery, 4300 Old Frederick Road, Baltimore, MD.
Father Daniel will long be remembered by us, since “fraternal communion among our religious is not interrupted by death but is strengthened and truly endures through love and prayer” (GD 41). With confidence in the Mercy and Goodness of the Trinity, we request that the suffrages prescribed by our legislation be offered for Fr. Daniel.
