On Sunday, May 17, 2020, Betty H. Baskwill, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away at age 83 after a short illness. Betty was born in Detroit, Michigan to James O. and Verna Hendricks. She grew up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota before attending Hanover College in Indiana followed by the University of Minnesota, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Music. She then received her Master’s degree in Sacred Music from Union Theological Seminary in New York City, where she met her husband, Richard Price Baskwill, to whom she was married for 54 years. Betty and her husband raised two daughters, Anne and Megan, in Lutherville, Maryland, where they resided for 52 years.
Betty’s passions were her family and friends. Her warm smile and compassionate spirit drew people towards her. People who knew Betty always said she was friendly towards everyone. No matter where she went, she always ran into people she knew. She took great pride in being a mother and grandmother, and loved her family very much.
Betty served as an organist and longtime member of Dickey Memorial Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Maryland. She also was an affiliate member of Rehoboth Welsh Church in Delta, Pennsylvania, where her husband presides as minister.
Betty is survived by her husband, the Reverend Richard P. Baskwill; her two daughters, Anne Martin of Bel Air, Maryland (married to Paul Page, Jr.) and Megan Jones of Buford, Georgia (married to Bishop Chandler H. Jones); her four grandsons, Bradley, Benjamin, Aidan, and Owain; her two granddaughters, Mailli and Caelin; her brother, James J. Hendricks of Spearfish, South Dakota; and her sister, Nina Larson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A memorial service in celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in memorial of Betty Baskwill to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or to the American Cancer Society, 405 Williams Court, Suite 120, Baltimore, MD 21220.
Due to current restrictions, Interment will be private. The service will be live-streamed on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 1:30 pm through the Lemmon Funeral Home FaceBook page.
