Born at home on Mathieson Place in Portland, Oregon, on August 20,1922, to Lawrence and Edith Miller, Lenore was the second oldest in a family of four girls. Her family moved to Tigard in 1927, growing up in the family home off Greenburg road. She attended grade school at St. Anthony’s, graduating in 1936, along with her future husband, Paul Warner.
While her parents were away on a working trip in Alaska, Lenore and her older sister, Dorothy, experimented with driving their dad’s tractor around the 5 acres, and then taking the family car down the driveway, out through the double gates, turning around on 95th, and returning safely through the gates.
Staying close to home, Lenore graduated from Tigard High School in 1940, where she played the clarinet in the school band. Her acquired skills at the business school gave her many opportunities, working at US Bank Tigard, and Charles F. Berg and Meier and Frank department stores.
She married Paul on October 1, 1944, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. After purchasing land on Southwest 72nd Avenue, together with the help of several family members, they built their first home, a two bedroom one bath, and resided there until 1979, when they moved to Summerfield Retirement Community.
Their only child, Nancy, was born and raised in Tigard. Lenore and Paul traveled to California several times a year to visit their daughter, son-in-law Ivar, and two grandsons, Ian and Bjorn.
In 1982, joining a group of friends, they spent a vacation in Australia and New Zealand, visiting some of Paul’s Navy assignment locations during WWII. After owning and operating an industrial mill supply company for 38 years, Paul and Lenore retired and participated in many functions in Summerfield, volunteering their time with the Lions Club, and joining friends for social activities at the Elks Lodge.
In August, 2015, Hazel May Anderson was born to Bjorn and Erika, bringing the four-generation tradition to the Warner and Miller families. Lenore was delighted to see the smiling face of her great-granddaughter on several occasions over the past few months.
Following a brief illness, Lenore died on May 2, 2016. She is predeceased by Paul, who died in 2009, after 64 years of marriage. May they both rest in peace….
