Gerald “Jerry” Vern Barron, 89, of Portland, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born on March 4, 1934 and was raised in the Portland area by his parents Ruth and Nobert Barron.
Jerry married Patricia “Pat” Ann Jordan on May 1, 1986, in Reno, Nevada. He served our Country in the U.S. Navy and left with an honorable discharge. He was a life member of the Sherwood Robin Hood Elks Club, acting as club secretary for many years and received the Elk of the Year award. Jerry was a long standing member of the Austin Healy Club of Oregon in which he served as President. He was also a member of the Oregon Jaguar Club, SW Portland Fuchsia Club and the American Legion. After his retirement as transportation superintendent for the David Douglas School District, Jerry served as a Hospice volunteer and a greeter for the Portland Holiday Train. He and Pat enjoyed traveling throughout the PNW area with their Austin Healy Club. He enjoyed family time, working in his yard, neighborhood get-togethers and going for bagels with the guys. Jerry never met a stranger and loved to make people feel special.
His hobbies included restoring British cars as well as a vintage British double decker bus, a British phone booth and many youth pedal cars. His pride was a vintage London taxi that he drove in several parades. Jerry was a collector of Matchbox cars, other miniature cars, M&M memorabilia, and Betty Boop memorabilia.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pat and Jerry’s dear friend, Annette Balog, who never missed the opportunity to help both at their time of need.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on April 1, 2023, at Young’s Funeral Home in Tigard, Oregon. Per his request, he will be cremated and laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery at a later date.
