Leo Avey 87, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Leo will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather by all that loved him and knew him. He was born on October 1st, 1933 to Leonard and Alice (Venard) Avey.
Leo is survived by his lovely wife of 68 years Colleen June (Kissler) Avey and 4 Children: Lyle (Carolyn) Avey, Pamela (James) Fuller, Paula (Robert) Cook, and Alison (Erik) Keefer. He has 7 grandchildren, 14 Great Grand Children and 1 Great Great Grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
In 1951, Leo graduated from Brighton High School which he lettered in Basketball & was very active in sports.
He married Colleen June (Kissler) Avey on June 7, 1953 in Brighton, CO. He started work with Public Service Company in December of 1953. In 1972, Leo was transferred with Public Service Company to Leadville, CO and in 1980 transferred back to the Denver area to manage the 38th and Holly location. At that time, he and his wife moved back to Brighton, where he retired in the summer of 1988 from Xcel Energy Company.
Leo was involved with the Platte Valley Rifle Association in target shooting with his lovely wife.
In 1964 they moved to Fort Lupton, CO to live on the Farm with his folks, which at that time they took up bowling and they traveled all over the United States bowling in the National Bowling Association tournaments. In 1987, Colleen took up archery hunting to participate with Leo. They were always doing things together. Leo retired in April of 2019 from bowling which he enjoyed very much. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, JC’s and the Brighton Senior Center where he was a driver for outings, which was very enjoyable for him. His competitive nature throughout his life was obvious to everyone who knew him in bowling, rifle shooting and family get togethers. Cribbage was his favorite game with family and friends.
A private funeral service will be held with the immediate family at Olinger Highland Mortuary. Interment will follow at Olinger Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton, CO in Leo’s memory.
