Kurt was born December 23, 1936 in Springfield, Wisconsin to he late Roland and Vivienne (Corcoran) Peterson.
Kurt attended school in the Lake Geneva, WI area. He played football at Lake Geneva High School and graduated in 1954.
Kurt worked many years at Reichert Chevrolet in Crystal Lake, IL before moving to Colorado. He worked for Avis Car Rentals and Horace Mann Insurance as the auto and home appraiser. He owned and operated Murray Adjustment Service as an appraiser until his retirement. He couldn’t stop working so he drove a school bus for Adams 12 School District for another 11 years.
Kurt got into late model racing at Lake Geneva Raceway the 1960s, racing Chevrolets, while working at Reichert Chevrolet. He raced among friends for many years and many wins. He drove the number 88 during his career.
Kurt and Phyllis (Beers) Peterson were married in April 1975. They moved to Colorado in July 1977 where they raised their daughters, Michelle and Stephanie. They spent many years going on picnics in Rocky Mountain National Park and spending many years going to swim meets with the girls, going up and down the front range.
Our special years were filled with traveling with the girls and then just the two of us. We enjoyed many trips covering the 4 corners of the United States and much in between. We visited Walt Disney World many times and Kurt and Phyllis later included many races at Daytona International Speedway along with Disney. Our trips also included Hawaii and Alaska.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Beers) Peterson and daughters Michelle K (Peterson) Sheffield and Stephanie R (Peterson) Frano. Also survived by sons K James Peterson of Lake Geneva, WI and William L. Peterson of Lake Geneva, WI. He also has 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Kurt is also survived by his sister, Carole (Peterson) Smith of Tucson, AZ and Clark D Peterson of Elkhorn, WI. He was preceded in death by daughter, Marjorie A Peterson, his parents Roland and Vivienne (Corcoran) Peterson and brother Lee R Peterson.
